Text 'uaahockey' to 41444 to make UAA Hockey the best experience in Alaska
Save Seawolf Hockey is a group of hockey boosters, hockey alumni, fans and community members dedicated to saving Seawolf hockey from elimination.
The UA Board of Regents voted to eliminate hockey, gymnastics and alpine skiing from UAA after the 2020-21 school year in order to reduce the university’s overall budget. However, the board offered an opportunity to reinstate the sports programs if supporters could raise enough funds to cover two years of operating expenses. That gives Save Seawolf Hockey until Feb. 15, 2021 to raise $3 million: which equates to $1.5 million for the 2021-22 season and an additional $1.5 million in pledges for the 2022-23 season. It will take the entire community to meet this goal and save UAA hockey for future generations.
The mission of the Save Seawolf Hockey, LLC, is to support, advise and work collaboratively with the UAA Director of Athletics and Head Ice Hockey Coach in the establishment, pursuit and realization of short and long-term goals associated with solidifying and growing the overall brand, sustainability and impact of UAA Hockey locally, regionally and nationally.
Our short-term vision is to raise $3 million February 15, 2021 in-order to meet the Board of Regents directive and save Seawolf Hockey from extinction.
Our long-term vision is to obtain pledge dollars to sustain the program in perpetuity.
We are a volunteer organization. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
The UAA hockey program is not only important to our university and its students but it has a significant impact on our community. The Seawolf hockey program and its players have contributed to the Anchorage community for the past 40 years. It has elevated the game of hockey in a town that prides itself on the sport and the generations of athletes that have played the game – whether on house teams, comp, pro or adult league.
The Seawolf team not only provides fast paced, hard hitting, goal scoring, entertainment during the winter months, but they contribute to the community with more than 300 hours of community service each year and are local heroes who are looked up to by our youngest residents. Many of these players make their final home Anchorage, coach our youth teams, mentor youth players and help mold them into incredible young men and women.
These players have gone on to become our first responders, teachers, medical professionals, engineers, business leaders, and business owners helping our city grow and keeping it safe. They raise their families here, pay taxes and they and their children support our community in so many ways.
We ask you to help us save this incredible program by contributing today so we can enjoy collegiate hockey in Anchorage for many years to come.
